Hi and huge welcome to Hiking for Health.
Louise and Kathleen here! We are qualified Day Walk Leaders with over 30 years experience in nursing and Midwifery. We are also Certified Health and Lifestyle Coaches, graduatIng from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York in 2016.
For over 20 years we have been passionate advocates for a ‘better way’ of health. One that prioritises prevention, nourishment, movement, connection and longevity rather than quick fixes.
Hiking for Health is an initiative created to combine the proven benefits of hiking with the principles of Integrative Health and Lifestyle Coaching because we believe that lasting health is built through community, education, nature and simple, consistent habits.
Expect plenty of laughs, practical tips, and maybe a few stories from “back home” Northern Ireland, as we guide you on a path to better health. And lots of new friendships, too!

Hiking is one of the most powerful and underrated practices for supporting emotional wellbeing. Moving your body in nature naturally increases feel good neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, helping to reduce stress and calm the nervous system.

Walking on varied terrain gently challenges muscles, joints and bones, helping to improve balance, stability and functional strength. Natural strength building also encourages healthier bone density, protects joints and reduces the risk of injury.

Hiking is a gentle yet effective way to support cardiovascular health. Regular walking improves circulation, strengthens the heart and supports healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Over time, this reduces the risk of heart disease while building endurance in a sustainable, enjoyable way.

Boost your body's natural defences with every step! Hiking improves circulation, reduces stress and enhances overall wellness helping you build a stronger, more resilient immune system.

Enjoy the therapeutic effects of the outdoors while staying active. Immerse yourself in nature, find inner peace, and build meaningful connections with yourself, others and the world around you. Experience the true essence of mindful hiking and a "hikers high!"

Experience: Woodside to Birdwoor i Amy Gillett was a member of the Australian women's cycling team\nbefore she was tragically killed while training in Germany in 2005. The pathway was built as part of a nation-wide program initiated by family and friends to encourage people to enjoy cycling and, importantly, to do so in perfect safety. This path is bitumised and with a very gentle climb. The highest point of the trail is just south of Mount Torrens, and from there the trail is a gentle descent into Birdwood with the last kilometre into Birdwood being a gentle climb.
Experience: The Willunga Basin is bounded by the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges, the Gulf St Vincent and the hills of the Onkaparinga Gorge. The Willunga Basin Trail is a 130 km walking trail, of 11 Sections of moderate to hard standard. It crosses the undulating farmland and vineyards of the McLaren Vale Wine Region, ascends and descends the Ranges four times and travels along the coast as it encircles the Basin. This is Section 11 from Blewitt Springs to McClaren Flat. Easter Monday lunch at Vale Restaurant and Bar 12.30pm own cost. Please phone 08 8151 0404 to book.
